WINE ENTHUSIAST
94 POINTS
2005 Mount Veeder Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
This is a big, powerfully constructed mountain Cab. Right now, it’s noticable for the impact of tannins, which are hard and astringent. They complicate the massive black currant, cassis, moneral and cedar flavors. The richness won’t go away while you age the wine and wait for some sediment to fall out. Best after 2011.

WINE ENTHUSIAST
92 POINTS
2014 Louvau Vineyard Viognier
This 100% varietal makes the case for Viognier in this appellation, expressing Golden Delicious apple and pear around a fresh, medium build of viscous texture, lemon and wild honey. Pretty and aromatic, it’s a classically fine-formed white, made in small quantities.

2008 Mt. Veeder Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Classic Cabernet flavors of blackberries, and cassis. Drink this elegant wine over the next six years. This Cabernet remains hefty in tannins. These tannins are soft and lusch, in fact, they’re an integrated part of the network that makes this wine so interesting. -S.H.

2012 Speedy Creek Sangiovese
A 100% varietal wine, this is a rich, expressive take on the Italian stalwart, fulsome and hearty in sizable tannins and yet exuberant in red and black fruit. A note sage gives it a wild, herbal undertone before a long, flavorful finish. -V.B.
